WHO TF ARE WE?

Hi! We are Hayden Esau and Miyuki McGuffie.

We crossed paths late in the game with a bunch of experience but not a lot to show for ourselves despite spending our entire careers in hospo. It was time to go out on our own. Asian Diner started as the name for an imaginary restaurant we couldn’t stop talking about. Eventually we decided to stop screwing around and see if this idea had legs. We held our first pop up event in March 2018 and since then have held numerous events in Hawke’s Bay, as well as a two night stint in Wellington. 

Our food philosophy is more like a series of questions: Is it easy? Is it tasty? Is it fun?

Our favourite flavours to work with come from Korea, Japan, and fast food outlets. The short word for it is fusion, but we think of it as inauthentic feel good trash.

In November 2019 we start our first residency at Brave Brewing Co in Hastings. Come see us at 408 Warren Street for dine in, take away, or order online if you don’t actually want to see us but still need feeding.
